In addition to our standard dental services, Steamboat Dental offers adults a cosmetically focused orthodontic care solution. Short term orthodontics (averaging 4-9 months treatment) focuses on getting the front teeth into a better position quickly without addressing jaw and bite-related issues for those patients who just want a nicer smile or have had relapse from a previous orthodontic treatment.
When Are Orthodontics Necessary?
Orthodontic treatments can become necessary for a number of reasons. When teeth are crooked, overlapping, or crowded it can lead to a number of other problems:
- Tooth decay
- Gum disease
- Excessive stress on teeth
- Jaw injuries
- Speech impediments
- Loss of self-confidence.
To determine whether a person needs orthodontic work, x-rays, bite analysis, and/or digital scans may be used. Once we have enough information to make an accurate diagnosis, we have a conversation with a patient to determine what treatment will work best for their oral health and budget.
Most patients dealing with orthodontic problems opt for one of several possible orthodontic treatments available today.
When orthodontics become necessary, one of the following treatments will be used to correct a bite issue.
Patients wishing to avoid the discomfort or appearance of metal or ceramic braces may opt for Invisalign, which uses molded trays to move teeth into position. The process is similar to braces, as regular adjustments are required, but Invisalign tends to be more comfortable and unnoticeable.
Cfast and/or Six Month Smiles braces are made by attaching plastic or ceramic brackets to each tooth. A special flexible wire with shape memory is inserted through each bracket, and then the teeth are gradually moved into place through incremental adjustments to the wire. This method has been around for a long time because it gives orthodontists the most control over alignment.
